Who are we?

VISIBLE is a non-profit creative publication designed to amplify the voices of individuals living with invisible disabilities.

We publish art, poetry, prose, and photography from anyone with the experience of living with an invisible disability or caring for someone who lives with an invisible disability. If this sounds like you and you’d like to get involved, please see our submissions page for further information.

What is an invisible disability?

An invisible disability is any disability that isn’t immediately noticeable to the outside world.

We encounter people every day who may not seem any different to everyone else, but who are quietly contending with chronic conditions that have a constant and significant impact on their lives.

Invisible disabilities can include anything from mental health conditions to chronic physical conditions to neurological or developmental disorders.

Common examples of invisible disabilities might include conditions such as: depression, fibromyalgia, brain injuries, Chron’s disease, PTSD, autism, and dyspraxia. Many people live with more than one invisible disability.

What is VISIBLE’s aim?

There is still a great deal of stigma, silence and misinformation about what it means to live with an invisible disability - and the struggles faced by those affected often go unseen. By giving people with invisible disabilities a creative platform, VISIBLE hopes to make the experience of living with an invisible disability more widely understood.

VISIBLE was founded by Lucy Arthur in 2021.
